Last of the Summer Wine Run

The re arranged Robin Hood Mini Club Last of the Summer Wine Mini Convoy to Holmfirth on Sunday 28th February 2010 started from Ollerton at 9am with 12 mini’s, 7 of which had come from Skegness to join us.

Arriving on time at  Barlborough we picked up another 4 mini’s.  At this point after the lead car had moved off there seemed a reluctance to form the convoy as everyone else was sat in their mini’s in the car park waiting on each other making the first move!  Eventually thanks to Alan's intervention and hand gestures everyone got the message and set off for our next stop at Chesterfield.

Andy introduced the ‘lets all go to Morrison's detour’ which cause great confusion, a split in the convoy and a little time delay before we finally arrived 30 minutes late at Chesterfield where the final mini was waiting to join us making us 17 mini’s in total for the convoy.

Having learnt a lesson at Barlborough we nominated Luke as ‘convoy forming officer’ which meant he got to stand out in the cold, get us all formed into a convoy  and make sure the cars with radio communication to the lead car were positioned evenly through the group, then he had to jump in the last car with Alan and be the rear car radio man - well done Luke.

It was a typically fresh but dry February day and perfect for a drive out.  The convoy weaved it’s way to Eyam for our refreshment / comfort stop making up some 10 minutes as we went.  Leaving almost at the planned time we headed off for the best part of the drive, those lovely High Peak windy roads that are just made for mini’s and what a fantastic sight our convoy of 17 mini’s made.

We arrived at Holmfirth only 5 minutes later than planned but still  in time for the first group taking the Last of The Summer Wine Tour Bus to make it.

With 3 hours for everyone to do their own thing we all went our separate ways with the shouts of ’Back here at 4pm everyone’ ringing in our ears from Mick.

Those that took the Last of the Summer Wine Tour Bus all said that they enjoyed it and the driver of the bus turned out to be the owner of a Austin Mini 7 who has said he will join us on a run one day - we recruit members wherever we go.

Some people visited the Last of the Summer Wine Museum and said that it was fantastic.

At 4pm everyone - well nearly everyone, except for those who couldn’t drag themselves away from the log fire in the pub on time - re grouped at the designated point for the return trip.  The group of mini’s from Skegness headed off first as they didn’t need to come on a detour to J30 on there longer journey home, so we waved them off and hope to see them on another run soon.  Then the remaining 9 mini’s headed off home and took the direct route back to J30 and the Treble Bob for the traditional after run coffee and chat.

A special well done to Aron & Greg who joined us for the first time especially as Aron had only just passed his driving test on Wednesday - you done well and we were all impressed.

To all the radio operators Heather, David W, Mark and Luke our thanks for keeping us all together and informed of progress as we went along.  Car 1 to all cars - Congratulations you have all been successfully in gaining full time positions on future runs.

Thank you to everyone who turned out for another Robin Hood Mini Club  adventure and making it such a good one.
